About Us

The is a self propelled activity based club that exists to get like minded Individuals together for fun and safety. We get together to Hike, Snowshoe, Backpack, Canoe or Kayak based on whatever is proposed by a member to lead. We also have a monthly social night at local pubs/restaurants once a month to share stories, pictures, and techniques, locations to hike and have fun.

Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm, see Current events for location of next meeting

At the meetings we discuss any club business, then members offer hikes to lead and members can ask questions about a hike and sign-up for it.

Membership year runs January 1 - December 31.

Member dues $25/single, $35/couple (2 persons living at same address) Includes $15/membership for dues in The Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC (The purpose for joining the Federation is that We (Backroads Outdoor Club Members) have an advocate looking out for our interests as well as being easier to find by people looking through the list of federation members).

Please feel fee to join us for 2 hikes then hopefully you will join our club.

Please be cautious about the fitness level required when choosing a hike and a club waiver form is required to be signed to go. On the hike description page of our web site you will see a rating e.g.: A2. If you click on the it will bring up the hike rating chart showing A2 is 10-20km with 500m elevation gain.

Backroads Outdoor Club was started due to a demand for a local hiking club. Brent Gray, owner of Backroads Outdoor store was being asked regularly about a local club. The nearest clubs were in Surrey, Maple Ridge or Chilliwack so he started and sponsored the Backroads Outdoor Club in Oct 2000. Although the store closed and Brent is inactive the club goes on.

To promote respect and appreciation for the outdoors through physical activity and education. To encourage people of all ages and all fitness levels to participate in safe outdoor activity.
